One idea runs through all of this: laugh with the person in the room. Your feed can be as dark and weird as your taste. What we don’t allow is humor used as a weapon against real people who didn’t sign up for it.

Dark humor is welcome

Edgy, dark, gross, offensive-to-someone: all fine. !LOL tunes to each person, so the people who love it get it and the people who don’t, don’t. If something isn’t for you, hit “Too far” — it teaches your feed without punishing the creator for being funny to someone else.

The strongest edge content is limited to people 18 and older.

Public figures are fair game

Politicians, celebrities, brands and other public figures can be the Target of satire and parody. Keep it recognizable as a joke, label anything AI-made, and don’t cross into the hard lines below (threats, sexual deepfakes, doxxing).

Not allowed

  • Private people as Targets without consent. No photos, videos, voices or names of private individuals (classmates, coworkers, exes, strangers on the street) unless they agreed to be in it.
  • Slurs aimed at real people. Jokes can explore identity; attacking a real person with slurs is harassment.
  • Harassment and doxxing. No pile-ons, targeted abuse, or sharing anyone’s private information (address, phone, workplace, etc.).
  • Sexual content involving minors. Zero tolerance, including drawn, AI-made or “joke” content. We remove it, ban the account and report it to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC).
  • Non-consensual intimate content. No intimate or sexual images, video or deepfakes of anyone without their consent.
  • Threats and incitement. No threats of violence, and nothing encouraging people to harm others or themselves.
  • Impersonation. Don’t pretend to be someone else in a way meant to deceive. Parody accounts must be obviously parody.
  • Unlabeled AI. If AI made or helped make it, label it. No cloning real people’s voices without proof of consent.
  • Stuff you don’t have rights to. Use the built-in GIF search for clips and reactions rather than re-uploading copyrighted video. See copyright in the Terms.
  • Spam and scams. No bots, fake engagement, or links that trick people.

How new posts go live

Every new Piece starts in “warming up” while it waits for staff review. Other members cannot see it until staff approve it; automated safety screening is not yet available. Staff approval is required for wider distribution. Low reach while warming up is normal; it’s not a penalty.

Reporting

Use Report on any Piece or profile and pick the closest reason (private person, harassment, hate, sexual content, violence, copyright, spam, unlabeled AI, other). Reports go to a human review queue. We never tell the reported person who reported them.

If someone is in immediate danger, contact local emergency services first. For anything urgent or sensitive you can also email legal@notlol.com.

What happens if you break these

Depending on how serious it is and whether it’s happened before, we may:

  • relabel content (for example, mark it as AI-made);
  • limit its reach or remove it;
  • warn you;
  • suspend your account for a while;
  • permanently ban you — straight away for the most serious cases, like sexual content involving minors or credible threats.

We report illegal content to the authorities when the law requires. If you think we got a call wrong, email legal@notlol.com and a person will review it.
