Terms of Service
Last updated
These terms are the deal between you and us when you use !LOL (“Not LOL”) at notlol.com and in our apps. Short version: you must be 13 or older, the alpha may break, you keep what you make, label anything AI touched, and don’t use humor to hurt real people.
Who we are
!LOL is made by Jyvin Company (“we”, “us”). Legal entity: [[legal entity name and type]]. Address: [[registered address]]. You can reach us at legal@notlol.com.
By creating an account or using the service you agree to these terms, our Community Guidelines and our Privacy Policy. If you don’t agree, don’t use the service.
Age: 13+
You must be at least 13 years old to use !LOL. We ask for your birthdate when you sign up to check this. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you confirm a parent or guardian has agreed to these terms for you.
Some edgier content is limited to people 18 or older. We use your birthdate to decide whether you can see it. Don’t lie about your age; we may close accounts that do.
This is an alpha
!LOL is in a private, invite-only alpha. That means:
- Features will change, appear and disappear without notice.
- It may break, lose data or be reset (including your content, reactions and Humor Profile). Keep your own copy of anything you care about.
- Invites are personal. Don’t share or sell yours.
- We may end the alpha or your access to it at any time. Please don’t share screenshots of unreleased features if we ask you not to.
Your account
You sign in with an email link (or a supported sign-in provider). Keep your email account secure; anyone who can open your sign-in links can use your account. One person per account. Pick a handle that doesn’t impersonate someone else.
Your content and the license you give us
You keep ownership of what you post: Targets, Shots, Chasers, laugh-backs, text, images, audio and video (“your content”).
To run the service you give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, copy, process, format (for example resize or transcribe), display, perform and distribute your content within the service — including in Rounds and feeds shown to other people, in Chasers that reply to it, in shares and share links, and when we promote the service. This license is only for operating, improving and promoting the service. It ends when you delete your content, except for copies already shared by other people, copies kept as required by law, and backups that roll off on their normal schedule.
You promise you have the rights to what you post (or that it’s allowed as fair use, parody or satire) and that it doesn’t break these terms or the Community Guidelines.
Reactions you leave (Laugh Meter, “Too far”, skips and replays) are used to build your Humor Profile and to rank content for everyone, as described in the Privacy Policy.
The rules
Dark and edgy humor is welcome here. Using humor to hurt real people isn’t. The Community Guidelines are part of these terms. In short, don’t:
- make private people the Target of a joke without their consent;
- harass, threaten, dox or impersonate anyone;
- post sexual content involving minors, or intimate images of anyone without consent;
- post content you don’t have the rights to;
- scrape, overload, reverse-engineer or get around the service’s limits or security, or use bots without our written permission;
- break the law.
AI labeling
Every Piece on !LOL shows whether AI was involved: none, assisted (AI edited or punched it up) or generated (AI made it). Anyone can switch to a human-only feed.
- You must label your content honestly. If AI made it or helped make it — image, voice, video, text or punch-up — mark it as AI-generated or AI-assisted when you post.
- We label ours. Content made with our own AI tools is labeled automatically, and we may add machine-readable markers (such as Content Credentials) to AI-generated media.
- Unlabeled or mislabeled AI content may be relabeled, limited or removed, and repeat offenders may lose their account.
Voices and likeness
No voice cloning of real people unless you have their consent and can show us proof when we ask. Voice effects in !LOL use stock synthetic voices only. The same goes for realistic AI images or video of real private people: don’t, without consent. Satire of public figures must be clearly satire and labeled if AI was used.
Moderation, removal and suspension
During the invite-only alpha, new Pieces stay “warming up” for staff review before other members can see them. Creators can see their own warming-up work. Automated safety screening is not implemented. People can report content and accounts, and our team reviews reports.
We may limit, hide or remove content, and warn, suspend or close accounts, if we believe they break these terms or the guidelines, create legal risk, or harm people. We usually tell you what happened and why, unless that would be unsafe or unlawful. If you think we got it wrong, email legal@notlol.com and we’ll take another look.
We don’t promise to review everything, and we aren’t responsible for content other people post.
Copyright and DMCA
We respect copyright and respond to notices under the U.S. Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). If you believe something on !LOL infringes your copyright, send a notice to our designated agent with:
- your physical or electronic signature;
- what work you think was infringed;
- a link to the content on our service;
- your name, address, phone number and email;
- a statement that you have a good-faith belief the use isn’t authorized by the owner, its agent or the law; and
- a statement, under penalty of perjury, that your notice is accurate and that you are the owner or authorized to act for them.
Designated agent: [[DMCA agent name, address and U.S. Copyright Office registration number]], email legal@notlol.com.
If your content was removed and you think that was a mistake, you can send a counter-notice with the details the DMCA requires. We remove content in response to valid notices, and we close the accounts of repeat infringers.
Disclaimers
The service is provided “as is” and “as available”, especially during the alpha. To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. Content on the service is meant to be funny; it isn’t advice and doesn’t reflect our views.
[[Final disclaimer language to be confirmed by counsel.]]
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we aren’t liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost data, profits or goodwill. Our total liability for any claim about the service is limited to [[liability cap, e.g. the greater of US$100 or what you paid us in the last 12 months]]. Some places don’t allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.
You agree to cover our reasonable losses from claims caused by content you post or by you breaking these terms [[indemnity scope to be confirmed by counsel]].
Disputes
If something goes wrong, email legal@notlol.com first; most things can be fixed that way. These terms are governed by the laws of [[governing law]], and disputes go to [[venue / courts, or arbitration terms if adopted]].
Ending things
You can stop using !LOL at any time and delete your account in Settings → Your data (or ask us by emailing legal@notlol.com). We may suspend or end your access as described above, or when the alpha ends. Sections that by their nature should survive (your license for content already shared, disclaimers, limits of liability, disputes) survive termination.
Changes to these terms
We’ll update these terms as the product grows. When we make a material change we’ll tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. The “Last updated” date at the top always shows the current version. If you keep using the service after a change takes effect, you accept the new terms.
